The climate in Cafayate is generally mild and dry. For most of the year, temperatures range between 15°C and 25°C. The best time to visit is from March to May and from September to November, when the weather is pleasant and rainfall is scarce. During these months, you can also enjoy the grape harvest and regional festivals.
Cafayate is famous for its vineyards and wineries, where you can taste the famous Torrontés wine. In addition, the Quebrada de las Conchas is a must-see for its impressive rock formations, such as the Amphitheatre and the Garganta del Diablo. Other highlights include the Museo de la Vid y el Vino and the Quebrada de las Conchas Nature Reserve.
To get to Cafayate from Buenos Aires, you must first take a flight to Salta, the capital of the province of Salta. From there, you can rent a car or take a bus that runs approximately 200 kilometers south, offering panoramic views of the Calchaquí Valleys Region. The drive usually takes about 3 hours.
In Cafayate you can enjoy culinary delights typical of northwestern Argentina. The most recommended dishes are empanadas salteñas, locro and humita. Don`t forget to try the delicious grilled meats and tamales. Also, accompany your meals with a good Torrontés wine, typical of the region.
