The City of Punta del Este, which is part of the Department of Maldonado, is located on the Southeast end of Uruguay on a long peninsula of sand, woodlands and rocks from which it has taken its name. Punta del Este has several stunning beaches. Playa Mansa and Playa Brava are the most popular; the former has calm waters ideal for families and the latter is famous for its waves perfect for surfing. You can also find charming bed and breakfasts and cabins in the quieter areas around the city.
To get to Punta del Este from Montevideo, you have several options. You can take a direct bus from the Tres Cruces terminal, with a journey time of approximately 2 hours. Another option is to rent a car and enjoy a pleasant road trip of around 1 hour and 30 minutes. You can also opt for domestic flights that arrive at the Laguna del Sauce International Airport, located near the city.
