Details of Day Tours

Between 7.30 am and 8.45 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in El Calafate and We will go to Los Glaciares National Park (80 km away), one of the main parks in Argentine Patagonia.

After an hour of travel in our comfortable transfer, we will arrive at the boarding dock located in the port "Bajo de las Sombras".

There we will embark for a 20-minute navigation through the Rico arm, enjoying impressive views of the Perito Moreno glacier. The navigation in front of the south wall of the glacier is truly spectacular.  One feels small in front of such a large mass of ice.

Then, reaching the opposite shore, already in a natural area without access of people outside those who took the tour, we will disembark and our specialized bilingual mountain guides will welcome you and take you to a small refuge.

After checking the last details of the group of no more than 20 people, we begin the trekking with the guides along the lake shore towards the edge of the Perito Moreno glacier.

Once we reach the ice, the guides will give each participant a pair of crampons to place under their shoes and will explain how to use them. These metal elements that attach to the shoes are those that allow us to walk with stability on the ice, allowing us to walk safely.

Once we are ready, we will begin a 2-hour walking circuit on the glacier. Through this hiking, we will walk and discover : streams, small lagoons, ravines, cravasses and a lot of ice formations of the most incredible blue.

The ice surface on which we are going to walk is irregular, but firm and safe. Our specialized team of guides will set the course to follow and will also assist by helping the people who require it.

Any person who is within the authorized age range and has good mobility can carry out the activity without problems.

Along the route there are stops to take photos and then have a good amount to share on social networks.

During the walk, we will receive explanations about the flora, fauna and geology of the national park. It is very interesting to know how the glacier was formed over thousands of years, and to understand the process well. of ruptures that we will later see when we visit the catwalks in the afternoon.

To close our luxury activity, we are going to have a glass of Whiskey with the particularity that we are going to make the on the rock with ice that we ourselves we can take from the glacier.

Once the toast ceremony is over we will return to the refuge, from where we will embark for another 20 minutes of navigation to the port of Bajo de las Sombras where the bus that will take us awaits us. take to the viewpoint where there are bathrooms, gastronomy services and the beginning of the walkway path.

We will have free time for lunch (there is a restaurant in the area where the transfer drops us off) and to tour the balconies and walkways of the Perito Moreno glacier built on different levels generating unique views from different perspectives, which will allow us to have incredible panoramic views to take the best photographs.

We recommend bringing a bottle of wine and water and some food to have a picnic on the benches along the wooden path that makes up the walkways.

To finish the experience we will return to the hotels with our transfer that will travel the way from the glacier park to the hotels in the center of El Calafate.

Such a great tour! i have never imagined myself hiking over the ice in such an environment! You don´t need any special training nor equipment other than nice trekking boots and insulation for the cold. We were a group of 30 people from all over the world on the ice. A great thing to do in the perito moreno Glacier.

Nature and Wildlife Hiking & Trekking Mountains Boat tour Ice Trek

The main thing is the coat since the conditions are very cold. A waterproof jacket. Closed, high, warm and if possible hiking shoes. Gloves, wool hat and scarf. As with walking you can perspire if the first layers of clothing are dri-fit thermal or synthetic that dry quickly is better. The pants must allow easy movement since in the end it is very important to be comfortable. (if they are water repellent it adds up since it can touch a day with snowstorms or rain)
If possible waterproof bootie style shoes would be ideal. In any case, any comfortable walking shoe that is closed so that water from the ice that melts with body heat does not enter is enough.
The Perito Moreno glacier is in southern Argentina in the region called Patagonia. More specifically on the south west of the province of Santa Cruz within the Glacier National Park.
Both tours are hiking on the ice of the same glacier. The difference are: The minitrekking is: Shorter walk (2 hours) Less physically demanding. It can be done by anyone between 10 and 65 years old. Big ice: Lasts 4 hours You need a physical condition according to the duration of it. The regulated age for taking up the activity is between 18 and 50 years.
