The tour to Ballestas Islands starts in the morning, after picking you up
from your hotel (optional) located in Paracas and go towards El Chaco dock, the boarding
point for the boat tour to the
Ballestas Islands. After boarding, we are going to begin an amazing adventure
to these beautiful islands.
The islands are located 30 minutes
away from the coast of Paracas, in
the province of Pisco, department of Ica. This place is a well know tourist
attraction because of the unique ecosystem and incredible wildlife.
On the way you can admire the still
inexplicable lines drawn in the sand forming a candelabrum. This mysterious geoglyph measures 590 ft., and is circa 2,500 years old. There is still
no reason why it was drawn on the dune of the Paracas National Reserve. Some
investigations relate it to the Nazca
Lines.
We will continue the tour until
reach the Islas Ballestas. It is a natural reserve of beautiful geological
formations, rocky islands, and impressive
fauna where you will find Humboldt penguins, sea lions and birds
such as the pelican, among other
species found in the archipelago.
The Island tour and
the Paracas peninsula are really impressive. The trip to Paracas
will leave you speechless.
Due to the number of birds that
lives in the area, and with the migratory ones, these islands have the best
natural fertilizer in the world: the guano.
Among the guano birds you will see the booby, tendril and guanay, among others.
Peru used the guano to improve the economy between 1845 and 1866.
At the end of the tour, we will
return to the dock and, then, drop you off at your hotel (optional) located in Paracas.
