The tour
starts with the pickup from your hotel located in the city of Lima to start a journey of 40 minutes until reach the district of Villa El Salvador, situated
16 miles south of the city.
Villa El
Salvador has started as a human
settlement in 1971 where many families settled without having basic
services such as water, drainage, electricity, etc. However, over the years
this place developed with an urbanization plan that helped all its inhabitants.
San Juan de
Lurigancho and Villa Maria del Triunfo were shanty towns of Lima too with an impressive develop and become
districts of the capital.
During this
fantastic tour we are going to explore the community
with the company of a leader to have a great experience along the walking tour.
As we get
closer to the bottom of the hill, the tour
guide will explain about the community
system, the history, politics and religion of the place. We will reach the yellow stairs that are part of an urban
project with many benefits for the inhabitants to have better access to their
homes.
You will
have time to take amazing panoramic
pictures of the city, as well as the Valley
of Lurin and the Pacific Ocean. You will visit the houses to meet the
neighbors, taking pictures with them in their traditional houses and see smiling
children all the way.
The shanty town tour will take you to a
local market to see basic products and we are going to visit a community
kitchen where a lot of people without resources get fed every day.
You will be
able to visit a kindergarten (Monday
to Friday only) and on weekends you will know some children while they are
playing in the streets.
After this
amazing experience, we are going back to the city to drop you off at your
hotel.
