DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN
IQUITOS
Early in the morning, we will pick you up at the Iquitos airport or from your
centrally located hotel in the city. Our transport will take us to the port of
Nauta, a two-hour drive from Iquitos, where we will board a boat for a one-hour
journey to a beautiful lodge nestled in the Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Reserve, on the
banks of the Yanayacu River.
This reserve is
located in the Loreto region, near the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Once
settled in the eco-lodge, we will enjoy a buffet lunch made with fresh, organic
ingredients from the region.
Your jungle
adventure begins with an encounter with the world’s smallest monkey, known as
the Pygmy Marmoset or "Mono Leoncito." We will take a walk through
the lodge’s botanical garden to admire various medicinal plants and learn about
composting.
Dinner will be
served at the lodge, followed by an exciting nighttime boat excursion. We will
head out in search of caimans, nocturnal mammals, and birds.
DAY 2: EXPLORING
THE AMAZON RAINFOREST
After a hearty breakfast, we will embark on a boat exploration along the Amazon
River, where you can refresh yourself with a swim. We will also search for the
famous pink and gray river dolphins, commonly found in the area.
During the
excursion, you will have the opportunity to see the world’s largest aquatic
plant, the Victoria Regia. We will also observe beautiful iguanas in their
natural habitat. Around midday, we will return to the lodge to enjoy a buffet
featuring both local and international cuisine.
In the afternoon,
we will try our hand at piranha fishing using traditional fishing rods—an
exciting activity for all ages! We will then witness a breathtaking sunset over
Sapote Lagoon.
Back at the
lodge, we will unwind with a delicious dinner. Later, we will take a nighttime
jungle walk in search of giant frogs and tarantulas.
DAY 3: BIRD
WATCHING & INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY VISIT
At dawn, we will begin our bird-watching experience by listening to the
enchanting sounds of the rainforest.
After breakfast,
we will set out on a boat excursion through the incredible Amazon jungle,
navigating lagoons and creeks upriver. This will be another opportunity to spot
a variety of bird species and monkeys.
The
Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo Regional Conservation Area is a protected natural reserve in
Loreto. We will visit the San Juan de Yanayacu Community, where you will learn
about their customs and traditions. During the high-water season, this
indigenous village adapts by living in floating houses and using canoes as
their primary means of transportation.
We will return to
the lodge for lunch and a well-deserved rest.
In the afternoon,
we will continue our adventure in search of a prehistoric-looking bird known as
the Hoatzin or "Shansho," a fascinating tropical bird that inhabits
the swamps of the Amazon River. After this unique experience, we will return to
our beautiful eco-lodge, deep in the heart of the Peruvian jungle, where we
will enjoy a delightful dinner.
At night, we will
embark on our final canoe excursion to listen to the mesmerizing nighttime
sounds of the jungle.
DAY 4: RIVER
EXCURSION & END OF THE JOURNEY
We will start our last day with a delicious breakfast.
Then, we will
take a canoe or, if you prefer, a kayak, for an excursion through the lakes and
lagoons of the Yanayacu River, continuing our wildlife observation.
You will have
some free time to relax in the hammocks at the bungalows or take a swim in the
Yanayacu River before enjoying our final lunch at this stunning lodge.
Finally, we will
begin our three-hour return journey to the Iquitos airport or your hotel in the
city.
