Travelling In Tena

Tena "Capital of the Country of the Cinnamon", or also known as San Juan de los Dos Ríos de Tena. It is located in the Amazon Region, three and a half hours from the city of Quito and three hours from the city of Ambato.

Its main activity is tourism, because it has a diversity of natural attractions and cultural manifestations that are located in each of the parishes that have special characteristics that allow visitors to know their history and traditions of the Kichwa ethnic groups and Huaorani

Agriculture, commerce in general and its friendly and hospitable people make this place a destination to rest and enjoy its natural and cultural biodiversity to the fullest.
The best time to visit Tena is during the dry season, from June to November. During these months, the weather is more stable and there is less chance of rain, which is ideal for outdoor activities such as rafting, kayaking and hiking in the Amazon rainforest. However, Tena has a tropical climate all year round, so it is always a good time to enjoy the rich biodiversity and local culture.
Tena is known as the `rafting capital` of Ecuador, offering rapids for all levels. Plus, you can hike through the Amazon rainforest, visit waterfalls, explore caves, and experience cultural experiences with indigenous communities. Other points of interest include La Isla Amazon Park and the Colonso-Chalupas Biological Reserve. Don`t forget to try the local cuisine, rich in Amazonian ingredients.
To get to Tena from Quito, you can take a bus from the Quitumbe Terminal, with a travel time of approximately 5-6 hours. You can also choose to rent a car and enjoy the scenery along the way. Some travel agencies offer private transfers, which can be more convenient and faster. The E45 highway is in good condition for this trip.
In Tena, you`ll find a variety of accommodations ranging from budget hotels and hostels to eco-lodges in the jungle. Many lodges offer complete packages that include adventure activities and meals. If you prefer to be closer to the center, there are city hotels with all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. Check online reviews and book in advance, especially in high season.
Tena is considered a safe destination for tourists, but as anywhere, it is important to take basic precautions. Avoid carrying valuables in plain sight and use safes in your accommodation. It is advisable to hire local guides for jungle activities and rafting, as they know the area and its risks better. Registered tourism agencies guarantee greater safety and a more enriching experience.
