The 1st stop of our Hop On Hop Off is located next to the Mall Parque Arauco, one of the most important shopping centers in Chile and Latin America. Inaugurated in 1982, it was the first mall in the country to bring together large stores and entertainment. Today, it combines a wide variety of gastronomy and fun, with various national and international products and stores, as well as a Luxury District with brands such as Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dior, among others.
The 2nd stop will be at the beautiful Bicentenario Park located in the commune of Vitacura, being the largest green space in this sector, which extends along the southern bank of the Mapocho River. It features various landscapes throughout its 27 hectares, including play areas, statues, sports facilities, lagoons, and more. The best way to explore it is by walking along its paths and visiting its two lagoons, home to black-necked swans, flamingos, herons, and fish.
The 3rd stop is the Cable Car Santiago, which offers the best panoramic view of the capital. We arrive at the initial station, called "Oasis Station", via the main access of Pedro de Valdivia. The cable car provides stunning 360º views of the city and the imposing Cordillera de los Andes, surrounded by nature and native Chilean species.
Named as the #1 attraction of Santiago, the cable car allows us to reach the top of San Cristóbal Hill at the "Summit Station", where the image of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception is located by Terrace Bellavista, which is known for its view of the city and the classic "Motes con huesillo", a must-try to refresh your walk.
The 4th stop is the Funicular, located in Parquemet, the largest green lung in Santiago and Latin America, better known as Cerro San Cristóbal. The Funicular was declared a Historical Monument in the year 2000 for the value of its complex cable transportation system and its significance as a heritage element of Santiago. Its entrance by Pío Nono is a grand neoclassical castle designed by the renowned architect Luciano Kulczewski, and the recently remodeled cars ascend about 500 meters along the slope of the hill to reach the summit of San Cristóbal.
It also features an intermediate station that reaches the National Zoo, and the next is "Summit Station", where we can connect with Terrace Bellavista, the Sanctuary of the Virgin, and the Cable Car.
The 5th stop is the Plaza de Armas of Santiago, the historic heart of the capital, considered kilometer 0. It’s a captivating space that fuses colonial architecture with the vibrant energy of urban life. Surrounded by the majestic Metropolitan Cathedral and colorful buildings such as the Post Office, the Municipality of Santiago, and the National History Museum, the square is a cultural meeting point where history, local crafts, and the lively atmosphere of the city converge.
The 6th stop is the Plaza de la Constitución, located in the Civic Neighborhood of Santiago. Around the square, you will find some of the most important buildings and monuments linked to the executive power of the State of Chile, and five statues of significant national political figures: Diego Portales, Pedro Aguirre Cerda, Jorge Alessandri, Eduardo Frei Montalva, and Salvador Allende. The Palacio de la Moneda is the main attraction as it is the presidential headquarters, next to which is the La Moneda Cultural Center featuring various art exhibitions. In the surrounding area, you will also find the Metropolitan Municipality, Stock Exchange of Santiago, Union Club, University of Chile, Paseo Bulnes, and Barrio Dieciocho.
The 7th stop is Cerro Santa Lucía, one of the most significant sites since the founding of Santiago on February 12, 1541. The monumental neoclassical entrance of the hill was completed in 1902 and harmonizes around a sculpture of Neptune, featuring a complete architectural ensemble with curved staircases, pools, a large terrace, and an arch of triumph topped by a dome.
In addition to the hill, its architecture and the panoramic views it offers, nearby you can explore the National Library, Barrio Paris-Londres, Church of Saint Francis, Central House of the Catholic University, GAM Cultural Center Gabriela Mistral, and the Lastarria Neighborhood, full of art galleries, restaurants, bookstores, crafts, and much more.
The 8th stop is in Providencia at the Plaza de la Aviación, an extension of Balmaceda Park. Its current name honors the monument of the Chilean Air Force erected in 1980. There’s also a water fountain called Bicentenario, which is nearly 70 meters long and more than 25 meters wide. The park borders the Río Mapocho, and you can also stroll along Avenida Providencia, a vibrant tourist area with various shops, restaurants, cafés, commerce, and bars to enjoy Santiago. Nearby is Barrio Italia, a gastronomic hotspot known for its variety of international restaurants.
The 9th stop is the tallest building in Latin America, the Costanera Center. This 300-meter high tower combines modernity and entertainment and has become one of the major tourist spots in Santiago. It features one of the most modern malls with hundreds of stores for clothing, technology, sports, cinema, and entertainment, and its extensive culinary offer. Additionally, it has a terrace and a viewpoint called Sky Costanera, which provides privileged views of the city.
The 10th stop blends modernity and gastronomy and is in the heart of Barrio El Golf, Las Condes. With mid-20th century architecture that belonged to wealthy families of the time, including Isidora Goyenechea, who lends her name to the main street of this neighborhood. Around this stop, you will find national and international restaurants and cafés, as well as attractions and entertainment such as Plaza Perú, Teatro Municipal of Las Condes, and the Las Condes Interactive Museum. Here, you can travel through space and time with engaging audiovisual productions in 3D format, making it an ideal spot to enjoy with family.
