We will depart very early today from your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama. The time is approximately between 4:30 and 5:00 am, depending on the time of year.
We will begin our ascent by heading to the Tatio Geysers, the highest geothermal field in the world, located at 4,200 meters above sea level. Within its expanse, there are approximately 80 active geysers.
We will arrive very early at the El Tatio Geysers, at dawn, when the columns of steam and hot water emerge from the ground. At this time, we will have the opportunity to explore the geysers, thermal pools, and other geothermal formations. It`s an impressive sight to see the hot water rise into the air like a fumarole in the middle of this lunar landscape.
Here we will enjoy a delicious hot breakfast while admiring the view of the steam fumaroles, which can easily reach 10 meters in height.
If you`re brave enough, this is your chance to immerse yourself in the natural hot springs of El Tatio. It`s a unique experience to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings while taking a dip in the thermal pool, which has an average temperature of 36°C.
Once ready, we`ll begin the return to San Pedro de Atacama, but first, we`ll visit the small town of Machuca, which is made up of only about 20 houses, each with solar panels as a source of energy. Here we can enjoy its cuisine, such as llama meat anticuchos or goat cheese empanadas. We can also walk down its only street, which leads to its old church.
After our walk through Machuca, we`ll return to the center of San Pedro to drop you off near the municipal parking lot. From there, you can explore the town a bit, have lunch, or return to your hotel on your own. If you prefer to take a private bus, we can also drop you off at the hotel where we picked you up.
Be sure to bring appropriate clothing. Warm clothing, as mornings at the geysers can be very cold due to the altitude, and a camera to capture the stunning views and unforgettable moments. It`s also important to follow the safety instructions provided by your guide to enjoy this experience safely and respectfully.
This full-day tour is a unique opportunity to experience the natural beauty of the Tatio Geysers, as well as the local culture in the Machuca Village.
This is a must-see if you`ve ever made it to this, the driest desert in the world.
