The tour begins with a pickup truck in the city of Ushuaia. As we continue along National Route 3, the road takes us through the charming Tierra Mayor Valley until we reach the Garibaldi Pass. During this approximately 50-minute tour, the guide shares information about the history, culture and stunning landscapes that surround us. It is the perfect time to enjoy some mates and relax while we contemplate the surroundings.
Upon reaching the Garibaldi Pass, we take a break to prepare for the trekking. The hike, of easy difficulty, covers 4 kilometers with a total duration of 3 hours round trip. Although the terrain has some climbs and mountain parts with stones and mud, the effort is rewarded by the spectacular views of the mountain range. We climb to the edge of the vegetation, where we discover the beautiful twin lagoons and continue our way to some rock terraces that offer stunning views of Lakes Escondido and Fagnano.
At the top, we enjoy a hot drink and an alfajor, recharging our batteries before descending. We return to the van to continue our journey to Lake Escondido, just 15 minutes away. There, a mountain stew awaits us while we prepare the packraft boats, which are single or double, stable and easy to handle. The lake crossing lasts approximately one hour, with the aim of connecting with the water and the environment that surrounds us.
If the weather conditions are not favorable for paddling, we have an alternative plan. Instead, we will do a trek to the Velo de Novia waterfall, located in the Olivia River area. This one-hour hike, although short, has parts with steep slopes, and will allow us to admire two waterfalls between the rocks, we can even stand behind one of them and feel the force of the water.
After approximately 7 hours of adventure, we will return to the hotels in Ushuaia.
