Tolar Grande is a town in the Puna of Salta 3400 meters high. It is 357 km from the city of Salta, and to get to this town you have to cross other towns and places of great interest cultural, geological y landscape. Take this adventure with us!
Day 1: This excursion begins departing from the city of Salta at 7:30 am on the way to Tolar Grande. The first destination we will transit is the Quebrada del Toro, a stage that the famous Train to the Clouds travels through. While traveling through the Quebrada, we will also visit the populated from Santa Rosa de Tastil and at noon we will reach San Antonio de los Cobres, where we will have lunch.
At 2:00 p.m., we will continue our way towards Tolar Grande and pass through the Abra de Alto Chorrillo, el highest point of our tour a 4560 meters above sea level. Then, we will descend a thousand meters to continue our adventure in the middle of the Puna of Salta, between salt flats and volcanoes to get to the star of this first day, the Devil`s Desert. There we will do a walk between mountains and plays of light by the projection of the sun at our arrival time. After enjoying this landscape, we will continue our journey to finally arrive at Tolar Grande, where we will have dinner in a dining room and spend the night.
Day 2:Our second day begins at 9:00 am, having breakfast in another dining room to learn about the culture of the inhabitants of the region. Then, we will leave with a local guide towards Ojos del Mar and El Arenal, where we will spend approximately two hours. This stop is perfect for walking and taking incredible photos at the viewpoints located in front of the seven volcanoes of the Andes Mountains at this point: Socompa, Aracar, Guanaqueros, Pulares, Salin, Arizaro, and the Llullaillaco volcano, recognized worldwide for being the second highest active volcano in the world. Later, we will return to the town to have lunch, use the bathrooms and get water and then head towards theSalar de Arizaro, considered the largest in Argentina and the third largest in America. It is a journey of approximately one hour where we will do photo stops until you reach the vicinity of the Arite Cone, a particular volcanic formation within the Salar itself. After spending time at the Cone and the Salar, we will return at sunset to Tolar Grande for dinner and again spend the night there.
Day 3: At 8:30 am, we will depart from Tolar to return along the same route we initially traveled. We will make technical and photographic stops in Pocitos and San Antonio de los Cobres to arrive in the city of Salta in the afternoon.
