We will start by enjoying the “Road to the Clouds”: in this first part, we will follow the tracks of the famous Train to the Clouds, admiring this engineering work started in the 1920s. This route we cross the Quebrada del Toro to San Antonio de los Cobres. We will make photo stops, for example at the La Polvorilla Viaduct, and we will visit Alfarcito, a picturesque place located in the heights of the Quebrada del Toro, where we will have breakfast.
After this, we will begin the tour along the route that will take us to Salinas Grandes. A completely different landscape from what we saw in the first part of the trip and with a good chance of seeing llamas and vicuñas.
In Salinas, we will witness one of the most beautiful white expanses of Argentina with sporadic turquoise tones and almost perfect reflections. Here, with the help of a local guide, we will have time to explore this great sea of salt, the turquoise lagoons that impress all who visit them, and including a very special visit to the Ojos del Salar (subject to weather conditions or limited in the summer by the indigenous communities that manage the visits). The local guide will also explain the interesting process of table salt extraction. At this point, we can take the famous photos jumping, in perspective, and with the reflection of the pools and the eyes of the salt flat.
After enjoying this mirror of salt, we will begin the third section, crossing the Cuesta de Lipán, an unforgettable scenic route, with a descent of 2,000 meters in 35 km. There you will see the transition from the desert of the Puna to the fertility of the most humid valleys. After this journey, we will arrive at the town of Purmamarca, where we will make a technical stop.
From here, we begin the return to the City of Salta.
