Highlights of Hotel Iruya

The Hotel Iruya was built in the highest part of a picturesque hamlet, where you can have a visual domain of the entire town, valley, river and ravine.

It is a single-story building which has a large central hall where the reception, living rooms, bar and restaurant are located.

From its large terrace and covered gallery overlooking the valley and the hills you can make an almost incredible sighting of condors.
At the Inn, we host and cook in the Mares Sur style, discover quinoa, the colors and flavors of Andean corn, Iruya potatoes, geese, broad beans, cayote, lean and fibrous meats high, the restorative stews of a day in the mountains. And wines from high altitude and from Salta too.

Viva the Andean experience from the other side: where the sun rises. Discover a quiet and unique place. Long live the stone and the silence, the water and every step in the mountain. As on an island not discovered by tourism, but in the middle of the Andes. Days that open and close in a high and distant corner of the world, Iruya. Its little acoustic town, the disconnected corner of Argentina.

Amenities

The building has a large terrace and covered gallery with views of the valley and the hills that surround it almost entirely, they have the particularity, due to its strategic location, of having sun most of the day, which makes it very attractive whether for breakfast, lunch, tea, or enjoying dinner in the light of the moon or the stars.

You can do a sighting almost incredible number of condors, which nest opposite on one of the hills located to the east. All surrounded by pirca as well as the sixty-step staircase that leads to the main entrance.

It has bar and restaurant service for both lunch and dinner. You will be able to enjoy a typical gastronomic menu of the place, which reflects the idiosyncrasy of these pre-Columbian peoples. You will know the typical delicacies of northern Argentina, tasty in culture and tradition.

Iruya

As far as we know, Iruya in Quechua means “place of high grasslands.” It is a small town in Salta connected to the road maps through the mountains of Jujuy, the Argentine province that most breathes the air of the Altiplano and the Aymara and Quechua culture.
With its delightfully cobbled town square overlooking the river, its rustic and beautiful 18th century adobe chapel, its town silences only suitable for mules and pedestrians, Iruya is a totally disconnected place, where silence reigns.

In Iruya and its surroundings, where there is water and something From the land, poplars and willows, corn and quinoa grow. The locals are farmers and shepherds of goats and sheep, also llamas.
The town was founded by the Spanish in 1753 but the indigenous people already inhabited these valleys , which were conquered by the Incas shortly before the Spanish.
The 20th century stops at the gates of the town.

Activities
In the month of April, Easter is a very special date.
May 15th are the patron saint festivities of San Isidro Labrador, a hamlet that is a 3-hour walk from Iruya. This day the saint`s day is celebrated and offerings are made. A procession is made with regional instruments.

The The first days of August is the traditional festival of offering to Pachamama, which consists of giving food and drink to the earth.
Then during this month It commemorates the death of Güemes and the festival of San Roque de Iruya. The latter is a festival of adoration and offerings to the saint, processions are carried out through the streets and the cachis are worshiped accompanied by native musical instruments. At the end of this month, San Ramón is celebrated, a celebration that takes place in Las Higueras, a hamlet near Iruya.
