They say that trips have three stages: when you plan them, when you live them and when you remember them. We want to accompany you in each one, from beginning to end.

And precisely "End of the world, beginning of everything" is a phrase that suits this incredible city very well: Ushuaia.

Are you thinking of meeting her?
Next, we tell you what to do in this city and the wide range of attractions it has:

Visit Tierra del Fuego National Park

It is 12 kilometers from Ushuaia and is made up of 68,609 hectares. It stands out for being the only National Park in Argentina that combines different scenarios: forests formed by lenga and sour cherry trees, mountains and seascapes with lakes and valleys. And in addition, each one has a great variety of fauna:

  • The Fuegian red fox, guanaco and the Huillín.
  • The sea cauquén, the caranca and the black-browed albatross on the coasts.
  • The Patagonian thrush, the cachaña and the giant woodpecker in the forests.

A visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park is ideal if you are a trekking lover: it offers carefully marked trails that are differentiated between those of greater and lesser difficulty. These are: Ensenada Zaratiegui, Lapataia Bay and Acigami Lake. We recommend visiting it from October to April, when the snow does not restrict the roads.

Another interesting option offered by the National Park is canoeing over Bahia Lapataia with a professional guide to explore the landscapes from another perspective.

Inside, there is also the Alakush Visitor Center: a space to buy souvenirs, try typical Ushuaia foods and public baths. If you are thinking of going, it is important that you know that no public transport reaches the Park, but there are other options:

  • Taxi or remis
  • Private cars and bicycles (beware, it is forbidden to enter the trails with these)
  • Through an excursion to Tierra del Fuego National Park

Navigation through the Beagle Channel

Through this navigation and leaving from the tourist dock of Ushuaia, you will begin to observe the panoramic views of the city from the water and then the tour of the Beagle Channel will take you to the islands of sea lions and birds called cormorants.

Of course, you finally reach the famous “Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse”. Don't forget to charge your camera well! Here you will be able to get the great characteristic postcard of the end of the world.

In addition, many of its navigations also take you to the Martillo Island penguin colony.

Visit the Faro Les Eclaireurs

Privilegedly located on the Les Eclaireurs islets in the Beagle Channel, this 11-meter lighthouse is an icon in Ushuaia. To go, you have to access a navigation excursion through the Beagle Channel where from the catamaran you will be able to appreciate it from different perspectives. Without a doubt, an attraction that deserves to be visited no matter what.

Trekking to Laguna Esmeralda

A classic if you enjoy being in contact with nature. This 4-hour trek on a 9-kilometer, low-difficulty path takes you through incredible landscapes while observing the variety of fauna during it.

The icing on the cake is at the end of the journey: the arrival at Laguna Esmeralda. The color of the water, the mountains that surround it and the tranquility of the place are reasons enough to realize that the walk was worth it. We recommend wearing comfortable and special trekking shoes and bottles of water. It is very important to highlight the commitment in oneself to take care of these trails and not to negatively impact nature.

Trekking to Martial Glacier

With its base 7 km from the center, you can do this trek all noon. Some parts of the road can be quite steep and tiring but upon arrival, you will find incredible panoramic views of Ushuaia and Los Andes. In winter, it is also a good option for lovers of activities such as Ski and Snowboard.

Isla Martillo

Through the navigations that leave the Ushuaia tourist dock, you will be able to navigate to Martillo Island: a key attraction located in the Beagle Channel. Its most significant biological heritage is its colony of Magellanic penguins and its colony of Papua penguins, unique in South America.

Some excursions offer only navigation and observation of the island from the catamaran. Others allow you to walk through Hammer with professional guides and small groups so as not to invade the habitat of these small animals.

Castor Hill

It is recognized as the southernmost ski center in the world and is located 26 km from Ushuaia. It has 28 slopes with all levels and the best quality of snow due to its extreme location. In addition, it has restaurants and recreation areas to enjoy with the family.

End of the World Train Ride

A great experience is to know this train, which through an excursion, takes you on the route of the famous path that the prisoners used to gather firewood (it is around 7 km) accompanied by beautiful natural landscapes.

Maritime and Presidio Museum of Ushuaia

A place that shows the history of this city that grew to the rhythm of the work of the prisoners. Its residents had to work in constructions, both for the prison and for the city. For this, inmates and materials were transferred to the work camps, in what today constitutes the
Tierra del Fuego National Park.
In the Museum you will learn about the history of the most famous criminals and what life was like for the prisoners in each of the cells as well as the local history of the city.

Take in views from the Mirador de Lago Escondido and Fagnano

Through a journey of 60 kilometers from the center of Ushuaia, you will reach the first panoramic view in the middle of the mountain range and at the foot of the famous Garibaldi Pass, from where you can see the Hidden Lake. In this first viewpoint you will be able to observe the impressive surrounding landscape. Then, we continue on our way to Lake Fagnano: the largest in Tierra del Fuego at 100 kilometers long. These roads can be done by vehicle on your own or hire specialized excursions in this regard.

Trekking to Vinciguerra Glacier

A 7-kilometer route that takes you to the Laguna de los Témpanos and Vinciguerra Glacier with unmissable views. They are around 7 and 8 hours walking round trip. The journey is quite demanding and some parts can be difficult. For this reason, we recommend that you wear shoes according to this activity.

Visit Estancia Harberton

To get to it, you must do a navigation through the Beagle Channel. It is a walk to learn about the curiosities and history of the oldest estancia in Tierra del Fuego, its founder Thomas Bridges and his family, as well as enjoying the tranquility of nature.

Laguna Turquesa

This glacial lagoon is a hidden corner in Patagonia that many are unaware of and when you discover it, it leaves you speechless. That is our perfect description for this place. Ideal trekking to do with family or group of friends. Don't miss this excursion!

Taste their traditional meals

From high-end restaurants with gourmet dishes to smaller establishments for fast and inexpensive food, Ushuaia gives you all the options.

  • Centolla: It is the main and most sought after dish in this city because it is found in few places in the world. The spider crab is a marine animal - a relative of the crab - that can be served in different ways of cooking: gratin, grilled or natural. Also, many restaurants offer a more classic option: Crab soup.

  • Cordero Fueguino: With a mild taste, Cordero Fueguino is one of the most representative dishes on an international level. It is always offered with different garnishes. If you prefer something more classic, this option cannot be missing from your menu.

  • Black hake: Distinguished for its flavor and smooth texture, this dish is among the first options in marine dishes.

Thematic Gallery "Fuegian History"

It is a space where through different scenographies and more than 130 life-size figures of characters they will tell you the history of Tierra del Fuego: from the first Yamanas, Shelkman and Haush peoples, the arrival of the Europeans, to the Ushuaia prison .

You will also find replicas of instruments and objects of historical value. All this, accompanied by an audio guide in different languages and headphones to live a personalized experience.

Plaza Malvinas

Walking along the waterfront and in the center of the city you will find this square with the famous National Historic Monument to the Fallen in Malvinas. An event that marked all Argentines and where the details of this great mural and the flame that never goes out in the center, generate emotion.

Goverment house

It is one of the most representative buildings in Ushuaia: its entrance is through San Martín but its imposing infrastructure is more appreciated from Maipú Avenue.

Fin del Mundo Museum

It offers different permanent and temporary exhibitions and the museum is divided into two locations: one is Casa Banco Nación (located in Maipú 173) and the Old Government House (located in Maipú 465). A good place to learn in depth historical archives of Tierra del Fuego.

Iglesia Nuestra Señora de la Merced

Thanks to its structure and colorful facade, it is distinguished from the center and port of Ushuaia. Located on San Martin street: an icon to visit.

Barco Saint Christopher

Walking along the Ushuaia waterfront, you will be able to observe this ship that was stranded on the shores of the Beagle Channel for about a century. Many say that it had the objective of participating in the rescue of the Monte Cervantes cruise ship but the objective was not met and today it is part of the photographic postcards of the city.

Paseo de los Artesanos "Enriqueta Gastelumendi"

A covered and very colorful gallery that is located in Plaza 25 de Mayo, where artisans meet and sell different regional handmade products.

Antarctic Pioneers Walk

It is an open-air tour of statues in honor of expedition members who set foot on the continent in the 19th and 20th centuries.
