Paracas is located in the department of Ica
close to Lima. It is one of Peru’s
attractions for foreign and Peruvian tourists that are looking for a nature
destination, historical attractiveness and relaxing moments.
The tourist attractions include the Ballesta
Islands, where visitors can see birds, sea lions, Humboldt penguins and
occasionally dolphins; the national reserve and adventure sports such as diving,
dune buggies, and hang-gliding.
Paracas National
Reserve: Nature
lovers will find the unique marine reservation of Peru here. This place is
dedicated to the protection and conservation of marine ecosystems. This
ecosystem is considered one of the richest and uncommon in the world.
There are also guided tours to see the Julio C
Tello museum, where the tourist can see an interesting exhibition of the
Paracas culture; the reserve's visitor center and the beautiful coastline which
includes the famous "cathedral" rock formation created by wind and
sea erosion.
Ballestas Islands: It is a collection of islands and
visitors can get close to them taking a boat tour. These are located outside
the reserve area. These are the home of a lot of birds, sea lions, turtles and
dolphins as well the Peruvian Booby and Peruvian pelican. It has a nickname the
poor man's Galapagos. You can take a boat tour to the Ballesta Islands, mostly
leaving at 8:00 a.m.
Paracas Peninsula: It is a desert peninsula within the
boundaries of Paracas National Reserve. Here, in the middle of its sandy hills,
you will find the enigmatic figure of the Candelabra, which belongs to the
pre-Inca culture. But the best way to see these figures is from a boat.
Tambo Colorado: Step back in time on a guided tour
of Tambo Colorado, a beautifully preserved Inca fortress featuring the high
priest's chambers complete with a sacrificial altar. A tour showcases the
historic Pisco Valley where desert dunes contrast with verdant farming villages
where centuries-old irrigation techniques are still employed.
Tambo Colorado was known as Puka Tampu,
Pucallacta or Pucahuasi and its buildings are typical Wary (Ayacucho) and Inca
(Cusco) culture influences, have buildings of ceremonial plazas, houses,
ceremonial platforms and the main building known as La Fortaleza.
Paracas is one of this places where history and
nature are combined to show the magnanimity of both.
