Trujillo has barely changed in hundreds of years. It is known as the city of eternal spring because it has a pleasant climate throughout the year.
This city, located on the northern coast of Peru, is one of the most populated cities in Peru.

Tourists come to this city to know its polychrome buildings, colonial churches, and the pre-Incan archeological sites.

These archeological sites, dated back 1500 years, are astonishing. Here, we are going to list the most important.

Chan Chan

This pre-Columbian archeological site is between Trujillo and Huanchaca. It was the center of the Chan Chan culture.

This world Heritage-listed ancient is South America’s largest pre-Columbian city. You can tour the 7-square-mile site with a guide knowing its shrines, cemeteries, barns, reservoirs and ceremonial plazas.

Its citadels are decorated with high reliefs of fish and animal figures and forms.

Huanchaco

Huanchaco, located on the coast, is a fishing village and beach town. This place is known for being the home of the caballitos de totora (little red horses), and its small boats made of reed.

These boats have been used by fishermen in Peru for 3.000 years.

It is a place for surfing lovers. Huanchaco is known for its clean surf.

Huaco El Dragon

It is a religious monument close to Chan Chan. It was used as a ceremonial and administrative center.

The temple of the Dragon, known as Huaco del Arco Iris (Temple of the Rainbow) contains murals of anthropomorphic forms representing the rainbow.

In this place, you can notice the transition from the Moche Civilization to the Chimú. The Moche civilization died and the Chimú inhabited the region until the Incas came in 1400’s.

The Adobe Pyramids are amazing.

Huaca del Sol and Huaca de la Luna

The temple of the sun and the temple of the moon are considered former sanctuaries and capital of the Mochica Culture.

This civilization, Moche people, inhabited northern Peru from the 1st to 8th centuries.

The Huaca del Sol was used for political purposes while the Huaca de la Luna was a religious center.

A guide can help you to learn about the history and significance of each temple. The walls of these temples are covered with amazing frescoes.

Trujillo is the perfect place for surfing and archeology. Venture to this coastal city for a diversity of activities.
