The Historic City of Chiclayo

Chiclayo is the fourth largest city in Peru. It was founded in the 16th century by Spanish priests during the colonial period. Many interesting buildings with Spanish style in Chiclayo were built during this period, and they are located in the historic city center.

Chiclayo is an economic center of the region and it specializes in sugarcane cultivation and cattle breeding. Chiclayo has been growing as a tourist destination, captivating tourists with its rich cultural activities, historical attractions, and exciting tours.

The city is plenty of tourist attractions, tombs with Moche and Chimú archeological booty, and the market of the brujos (witches), where you can buy any kind of herbs, elixirs, and other curiosities.

El Señor de Sipan Tomb is one of the most important attractions. This is an archeological site, which is filled with Moche history. It was recently discovered as the 80’s. This tomb consists of several rooms. This is one of the most beautiful tombs and impresses with its golden walls and rich decorations.

Paseo de las Musas is a promenade, which is a good place to enjoy a stroll. In this place, you can enjoy of an array of classical Greek statues and formal gardens. At the beginning, this place was built with the purpose of being a family recreation and improving the decoration of the city, but, nowadays it is a place where visitors can enjoy the marvelous statues from Greek mythology.

The Witch Market is another fascinating attraction. There, you will find shops selling traditional remedies like herbs, but you can also find animal skins and mystery potions. We recommend you visit this place with a guide.

There are many museums in Chiclayo. All of them full of fascinating Peruvian history and information about past civilizations. The Sican National Museum has spectacular exhibitions of gold artifacts.

The Brüning Museum is another spectacle due to it exhibits a large collection of important relics. The exhibitions are related to the Chavin, the Chimu, the Inca and the Moche civilizations.

Beaches in Lambayeque and Pimentel are amazing. They are perfect for summer and ideal for a day trip.

This city is amazing for its archeological history and the center is an important meeting place for both visitors and residents.
