Through this article you will find a complete and varied guide to the best rated places to eat in El Chaltén.

But first I'm going to tell you what the local food is and the main dishes on offer. As in almost the entire Patagonian area there is lamb (very tasty and lean meat, it has almost no fat), it can be eaten on the grill, on the cross, on the disk or in stews.

Another dish highly requested by visitors is trout, it is prepared grilled or grilled, accompanied with potatoes or stuffed with seasonal vegetables.

The locro is also another of the dishes that you will be able to enjoy especially to recharge your batteries with low temperatures. It is a preparation with beans, squash, meat (lamb, rabbit, pork, beef), corn, and a sauce made from pepper, oil and green onion.

Regarding desserts, you will be able to taste the most exquisite red fruit cakes, or other sweet foods prepared with these fruits that are harvested in this region. You can also accompany both sweet and savory dishes with liqueurs made from Calafate, blueberries or raspberries. And finally, we cannot forget the delicious and varied chocolates that you will be able to find in bars, fillings or tablets.

Here are the most important gastronomic places for you to try all the flavors of this small city:

Where to eat the best entrees

Ahonikenk

A small, warm restaurant decorated with Fitz Roy paintings welcomes its guests to taste the typical flavors of Patagonia. Here you can eat from homemade pizzas to dishes made of trout and lamb.

The star entrees are the lamb marinade and the creamy vegetable soup ( onion, tomato, asparagus). I also recommend the lamb stew with vegetables and mushrooms. These entrees are going to recommend accompanying them with the house wine (red or white) served in the traditional Argentine penguin.

For dessert, don't forget to try the cake apple and ice cream. It comes warm, the dough is crispy and the apple is cooked to perfection with the exact portion of sugar. It comes decorated with raspberries and chocolate. Delicious!

Don Guerra

A wooden cabin surrounded by a deck-type balcony on the outside is the ideal place to enjoy delicious dishes with views of the mountains. The most popular entry in the place is the provoleta with roasted vegetables (dried tomatoes, onions, zucchini, aubergines). In addition, it comes accompanied with field toasts and lettuce salad sprinkled with a kind of vinaigrette with bell peppers of all colors. The provoleta comes on a steel plate, warm and ready to eat.

Another prominent entry on the menu is the broken eggs, they come with chorizo, roasted potatoes, onion, parsley and three fried eggs placed on top that are cooked over the food at the moment of serving. A very Spanish dish, almost Basque and that will drive you crazy.

In Don Guerra you will find one of the few restaurants that has an important variety of craft beers, the favorites are the red, black and blonde pint. You can order it to accompany any of the dishes on the menu, its flavors allow you to combine them perfectly. Happy hours (2 × 1) of drinks and beers are offered daily in the afternoon and evening.

Another plus point is that the menu clarifies when the dishes are to be shared (in general they are quite abundant).
