Difunta Correa is a popular figure in Argentine culture, especially in the province of San Juan. Her story, filled with sacrifice and maternal love, has turned her sanctuary into a pilgrimage site for thousands of devotees.
A Brief History
Deolinda Correa, a woman who lived in the 19th century, became a legend for her extreme act of love. During a civil war, she followed her husband across the desert with her baby in her arms. Without food or water, she died on the way, but her child survived by feeding on her deceased mother. This miracle made her grave in Vallecito a significant site of worship.
