In the city of Lima, the past is respected
but you can find the perfect harmony between tradition and contemporary
architecture. Walking through its streets is to admire its churches,
archeological sites and large houses with balconies that coexist with modern
buildings. In 1991, its Historical Center was declared a World Heritage Site:
its artistic monuments were to be protected.
Lima is also the only South American
capital with access to the sea. Its beaches are perfect for surfers and on its
piers, the gentle breeze refreshes bike rides and walks. You can also fly in
paragliding over the Pacific Ocean.
In this city, founded in 1535, the
abundance of natural products and the fusion of techniques and cultures create,
in centuries, gastronomy with mestizo identity. It is also a consequence of the
excellent quality and passion of Peruvian chefs, Lima has been named Gastronomic
Capital of Latin America.
In the center of the city you can see
Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Apostle and Evangelist,
The Plaza Mayor and The Government Palace, these are marvelous and spectacular
representations of the architecture and sculptures of the 14th
century.
But
outside the city you can find the indescribable archaeological site of
Pachacamac (Lurín). It is the most important ceremonial center of the coast of
ancient Peru. It occupies an area of 465.32 hectares. It was built with mud.
You can visit its palaces, squares and temples (some restored). The most
important area is the Temple of the Sun and the Acllawasi or house of the chosen
ones. Both constructions were raised during the Inca domination (1440-1533). It
also has a museum with a lot of pieces that were found during the
excavations.
Lima is a love at first sight for
those who want to live a unique experience and it makes us go to the past.
