La Floresta da Tijuca is the best-known sector with the greatest infrastructure in the Tijuca National Park, which includes a restaurant, playgrounds and well-marked trails and paths.
Within the Floresta da Tijuca is the highest peak in Rio de Janeiro, the Pico da Tijuca, with its 1022 MASL, it offers spectacular views of the city and is one of the favorite places for lovers of mountaineering and climbing, since it is possible to reach its peak in both ways. Another important rock mass is the Pico do Papagaio (989 m), a granite formation whose shape resembles the peak of a parrot, hence its name. La Floresta da Tijuca also hosts the Lago das Fadas, the Taunay Waterfall, a waterfall 30 meters high, the Excelcior Viewpoint, which can be reached on foot or by bicycle, along a rustic path and a specialized Visitor Center in the environment.
