Ischigualasto is also known as "The Valley of the Moon".   it is a National Park declared a Natural World Heritage by Unesco. It is an arid place that preserves fossils of dinosaurs, dating back more than 200 million years ago.

It is full of rocks and colorful formations, which over years have been sculpted by the wind and water,  which have carved its soil in forms such as: crests with points, hollows, mounds of gray and ocher colors, which give it that characteristic moonlike appearance.

Tthis place is unique within environment surrounding  Orbate mountain range at 2,500 MASL.  it is a  relatively large depression  440 km²   of Cordillera de la Sal in Salar de Atacama surrounded by crests of 500 m elevation. Its extension covers from west by the mountain range of Domeyko, by east by Toconao and Peine by  south.

Impressive landscapes, with incredible rock formations, with lime and salt, with dunes of fine sand of a special gray. With caves to travel with lantern, nice walks in different points. It is a spectacular example of colors, shapes.  with the Andes and its snowy mountains on the horizon.

One important attraction of Valley of the Moon in  Atacama Desert is that there are large open space, where the view covers very distant horizons. it adds to the above landscapes color and shapes that could well be from another planet.
