From Rio to Búzios by Car: Freedom and Comfort

If you prefer to drive, renting a car will give you the flexibility to explore the region at your own pace. The journey via the BR-101 and RJ-124 (Vía Lagos) takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes. However, during periods of high tourist occupancy, travel time can exceed 8 hours.

The exit from Rio is through the Rio-Niterói Bridge. From there, you need to head toward the BR-101 and then, Vía Lagos (RJ-124), toward Araruama / Cabo Frio. Then, following the same path, a small viaduct gives access to the RJ-106, towards Macaé / Búzios.

The route is well signposted and offers spectacular views. But in high season, traffic can be slower, extending your travel time to around 3 hours. It is important to consider the three tolls on the route between Rio and Búzios: the Rio-Niterói Bridge (one way only), Vía Lagos (round trip), and BR-101, near São Gonçalo (return only).

 

Bus from Rio de Janeiro to Búzios
