It is one of the most traveled trails in Ushuaia. The
trekking to the Esmeralda Lagoon begins in Valle de Tierra Mayor and takes you through a magical forest of lengas and coihues. Along the way you will come across
small waterfalls and streams winding through the mountainous landscape.
After three hours of hiking moderate, you will arrive at the impressive Laguna Esmeralda, an emerald green lagoon (worth the redundancy) surrounded by glaciers and snow-capped mountains. The landscape is simply enormous and the beauty of the place will impress you.
As for the fauna, you can find different types of birds, such as the condor, the bandurria and the carpenter. You will also be able to see guanacos and foxes, and of course, the famous beavers of Ushuaia with their particular beaver nests in the middle of the journey.
Regarding the difficulty, this trekking is of a moderate level, so it is suitable for people with a good physical condition. The total distance of the route is approximately 10 km (round trip) and it takes about 6 hours to complete it.
