This enchanting
place is located on the easterly coast of Rio de Janeiro state. Búzios is a
beautiful peninsula scalloped by 17 golden sandy beaches. At the beginning it was a simple fishing
village, later, in the 60’s, the place was discovered by Brigitte Bardot and
soon brought it the attention of the world.
In its streets, you
will see the Mediterranean touch introduced by the Portuguese. Narrow
cobblestone streets and picturesque waterfront are some of these peculiar
characteristics. Búzios consist of three settlements: Ossos, Manguinhos and
Armação de Buzios.
Ossos is the oldest
and most attractive, Manguinhos is the most commercial area, and Armação is the
heart of the place. In Armação, you will find Rua das Pedras, the hub’s Búzios
nightlife, and Orla Bardot, a picturesque beachfront promenade.
There
are many activities to do in Buzios. On land, you can do a golf course, walks
to the natural lookouts, hikes, and tours. On the water, activities like Scuba
diving, snorkeling, and surf are available. But if you are a very quiet person
you can stay in one of its beautiful beaches. The most accessible, sheltered
and busier are Azeda, Ferradura, Forno, Geriba, Manguinhos and Olho de Boi, the
latter is regularly visited by nudists.
But
if you are interested in knowing the place you can take a boat tour to Ilha
Branca, Ilha Gravatá or Ilha da Ancora islands. There are some natural reserves
where you can enjoy.
In the amazing town of Saquarema, just an hour
to the south-west, you will find its amazing hill-top church named Igreja de
Nossa Senhora de Nazaré.
You
can also go to Arrajal do Cabo, where there is a fishing port named Porto do
Forno. This is a good spot to observe the seasonal migration of whales.
Búzios
is a paradise recently discovered that offer so much to their visitors.
